It's time for you to go!

I think winter has overstayed its welcome. It's like the house guest that just won't leave. And we're not talking just any house guest, we're talking a really messy, annoying, clog your toilet house guest. Now you all know how I really feel.

Last week I had the unfortunate situation of rear-ending someone. I was driving slowly in a long line of traffic down a narrow, icy, snow filled road. A few cars up someone slammed on their brakes and when I tried to stop I just slid right into the person in front of me. It couldn't be helped, it was one of those slow motion things where you know what your gonna do but just can't prevent it. Anyway, I got out of my car and sure enough there was a nice 4 inch black scratch on her brand new white car. No damage to my car-whew! So we called the police and they came out and said that since there was probably less than $500 in damages, we should just settle in amongst ourselves. So she called me this week with the estimate, of course $400. This surely didn't improve my opinion of winter.

Still working on training for the race. After running 2 miles last night, I went into the living room and talked to John. I have no idea how he did a marathon. Aside from the pain of moving for that long, the sheer boredom would drive me nuts. This does not include the actual marathon, seeing the people and running through the city is probably pretty exciting. But the actual training, I don't know how someone does that. Weir I am still waiting for the time when "eventually you'll get to the point where NOT running is actually more painful than running." I'm hanging in there. Next week I bump it up to 3 miles.

Not much else going on in my life... here's a top 5 to keep you entertained.

Top 5 things to do to beat the winter blues
1. crank the heat, put on a bikini, and pretend it's summer
2. plan a vacation to somewhere warm
3. drink
4. drink
5. drink

Sorry I ran out of ideas for 4 and 5, but you can never have too much of a good thing.

I would add watch movies and sports and play video games, but of course that applies to me for most of the rest of the year as well.

And I can definitely think of at least one more thing to add to the list, but since your parents read this I won't.

1. Drink. They say drinking actually lowers your body temperature, but after 5 years of barndances, I say that it doesn't matter so long as you drink enough.
2. Get a nice fire going (with or without a fireplace) and curl up with a good book/magazine/videogame/movie etc...
3. Snowball fight. If you can't beat winter, than at least use it to pummel someone in the face with a large ball of snow. I still remember the dorm vs. dorm snowball fight that we (Weston) had with our neighbors (Hopkins?) There were so many people and so many snowballs that the cops actually showed up. As they walked up we all stopped. They asked what was going on, we said "snowball fight." They were incredulous and said something like "they called us for that?" Then they just turned around and drove off. I think the cause of this snowball fight was that the power went out in the dorms.
4. Cooking. Spend 2 hours cooking up something you've never made before. The burners/oven will heat you up, as will the chopping and mixing.
5. A nice run. So long as it is not deathly cold (any negative windchill will keep me inside) get out and go for a run. Grab a hat, some gloves, and a sweatshirt and hit the road. The first inhale will get you coughing, but by the end of the run you'll be energized and more than warm enough (except maybe your toes.)

Eventually Christy, on the days you don't run you will start feeling apathetic and exhibit mild symptoms of depression. It isn't that you're actually depressed, just that you feel so much better on the days you run that your formerly 'normal' state just doesn't measure up.
It will happen.

Aw, Weir, that snowball fight sounds soooo fun! That's the stuff of memories right there.

Christy, that toootally sucks about rear-ending someone! I'm glad it wasn't that serious but still, $400! Eew.

I can't think of anything good to do in winter. Stay home and itch your dry, cracked skin? Wash your pants for the 3rd time in a week because the bottoms are mucked up with salt? Seriously.

I can last until about the end of February but we've still got another 2 months before it's nice out again and it's just too much to handle.

Becky that made me laugh pretty hard -"stay home and itch your dry, cracked skin?" thanks!

Weir you sound like you live the perfect life, must be nice. Thanks for the suggestions.
