Brookfield Zoo: Holiday Magic

On Sunday we decided to take a trip to Brookfield Zoo to check out their holiday lights display. John's family (Dad, Pat, Zac & Abbey) decided to brave the 17 degree weather and join us. We got all bundled up and headed over around 6 pm. We had never gone to the zoo in the winter before, but had heard good things about the light display. For anyone who wants to go and is wondering about cost it is $9 to park and then $13.50 for Adults, kids under 3 are free. I felt like the cost was pretty high, maybe next year we will try Lincoln Park Zoo, which costs $17 for parking and admission is free. Despite the cost I am glad we went, at least now I know what they have to offer and it was a fun family Christmas activity.

We wandered around the zoo ducking into indoor exhibits when we got too cold. The zoo was decked out with lights and decorations and they even had lights synced up to music that flashed. Anabelle really enjoyed the music, rocking out as best as she could being all bundled up. We saw quite a few animals, and some of them Anabelle seemed to be able to see clearly and comprehend that it was an animal or at least something different. Those animals were the gorillas while being fed carrots, a sea otter that swam right in front of her face, and a penguin that swam right in front of her. The rest of the animals were either too small, too camouflaged, or too far away.

After a while Anabelle let us know by screaming that she had seen enough and wanted to go somewhere warm and eat dinner. So we did. We went to Irish Times a cute pub nearby the zoo and had a nice dinner. John's brother Joe and his girlfriend Kari (along with the rest of the family) also joined us for dinner. Even though it was late and Anabelle was quite sleep deprived, she was pretty well behaved and we enjoyed a nice family dinner. A fun winter activity that I hope becomes a tradition.
