Cute as a Button!

On February 23rd we had Charlotte's 1st birthday party! We wanted to be able to invite some extended family and good friends. Since it is February and a little chilly we couldn't use our yard,  and that number of people just won't fit in our home -so we started looking for alternative places to have the party. Renting spaces in Naperville isn't as reasonable as we had hoped, but our friends live in a neighborhood with a clubhouse and the price was in our range so we were able to rent out that space. It was perfect for our party. While it is different than hosting an event at your own home,  in that you have to remember to bring everything you'll need with you, it was nice to not have to worry about having enough room for everyone to be comfortable.

About a month before her birthday I was trying to come up with a theme for the party, just to tie together the decor and invitations. I finally settled on "Cute as a Button" because, well, she is! There are so many cute ideas out there on the internet that you can do, and I could have really gone crazy if I had unlimited time, money, and energy. However, I feel like we had the perfect party for our little girl; and we had a great time! We had a lot of help from friends and family prepping, setting up, and cleaning up- we are lucky to have them :)  Thanks to our friend Kylee and my Mom, who took all of these photos!

My Sister in Law, Stephanie, made the adorable chocolate buttons on top of the cupcakes!

These ball mason jars were also used in the centerpieces at our wedding.

I used buttons to make the "C" for Charlotte's room. Friends and family wrote little notes all over it.

Inside the treat bags were chocolate button lollipops that Stephanie made, so cute!

I made a large felt birthday cupcake game. My idea being that little kids can just play decorate the cupcake with candles, and cherries. While older kids can use the blindfold and play "pin the cherry or candle" on the cupcake. I think we will keep this in the front closet and pull it out the week of any family members birthdays to play with.

I made Charlotte a special button bib to wear.

One picture from each month of her life.

Enough about the decor, time for cake.
Charlotte was not impressed by the whole cake thing, in fact she seems to not even like cake! Can you believe that?!!

You can tell here I am saying, "look Charlotte, it's cake!"

Our sweet little Miss Charlotte says, "ok, maybe I'll taste it, but only if I can use a spoon like a dignified lady!"

Lots of time was spent with family and friends, Charlotte had a great 1st birthday and we had fun celebrating her first year. It sure went by quickly!

Great blog Sweetheart, love all the pictures and the little button herself, this year has flown by for us at least, she is growing way too fast!
