Halloween costumes gone wrong

Having a long commute has lead me to listen to radio stations that I probably never thought I would, I find that I am very lenient now on what I consider “entertaining”. Since Eric and Kathy were getting pretty run of the mill for me, my new morning routine has been to listen to the 103.5 morning show with Drex. It’s trashy and pretty salacious but it gives me a laugh and keeps me awake. This morning they were discussing a story that had just broke and I found it pretty interesting, I am not sure how many of you had heard about this already, so sorry if it’s old news.

At Penn State some college students have recently had some pictures surface on facebook of their Halloween costume from a party earlier this year. They decided to be “controversial” (their words) and dress as the Virginia Tech shooting victims. Their costumes consisted of Virginia Tech t-shirts and fake bullet wounds. It was a small party and someone took pictures of their costume. The pictures got into the hands of someone who was not a friend and that person then posted them on facebook. The result of this has been extreme anger and hurt. The students that dressed up have received lots of attention, most of it negative, they even have received death threats.

Now the part of this story that interested me was that I felt like it could have easily happened to someone I know. Halloween costumes are getting more and more outrageous each year. It has become commonplace to see people dressed as celebrities or current event situations. I can recall a past party that I attended where 2 people dressed as Siegfried and an injured Roy after his attack from a tiger. Now I am not commenting on the tastefulness of such costumes, I am just saying that this could have easily happened in our group of friends.

The radio DJ Drex was very upset about the whole situation and felt that Penn State should expel the students because of their actions. He claimed that since they were enrolled in the university and the pictures were posted using the university’s network (remember that someone else posted the pics without their consent) that the university had an obligation to reprimand these kids. Drex took some calls from listeners. They ranged from outrage that the students weren’t being prosecuted for their actions, to people feeling sad that this was even considered “news”. Several military personnel called in and thought it was absolutely crazy that that these kids were getting away with this. Drex did play a portion of an interview with one of the costumed students, and I have to say he showed no remorse, was very crass in his description of the costume and how it affected others, and felt that he was innocent and covered by freedom of speech.

Well he’s right, much to people’s disappointment Penn State was unable to do anything to these students because of their right to free speech. However now that they are in the public eye and people know who they are, who’s to say they won’t be harmed?

I found it interesting that individuals within the two groups of people I thought would be most pro freedom of speech (a radio DJ, and military personnel) had such a problem with this. What do you think?

Playing Catch-up

Oh boy it has been a long time since I have written anything. I can’t say that nothing has been going on in my life. Actually we have been pretty busy and crazier than usual. Yesterday I thought of a good analogy for my non-blogging. It’s like when you have a friend that you haven’t talked to in quite some time and you don’t want to call them because you’ll have to go through all the BS instead of just jumping to the most current news; and you know it’s gonna have to be an hour long conversation. So you just keep putting off calling them.
So to catch you up quickly here are the highlights from November in no particular order.

1. I am going to be an Aunt! My brother and Stephanie are having a baby, due sometime in June. I couldn’t be any happier, and can’t wait to baby sit and spoil the new little one.

2. John and I are in the process of buying a condo! It is in Evanston just a few blocks from the downtown shopping area and the train. The place is beautiful; it is a 2 bedroom, fully rehabbed, brand new everything, masterpiece! So far everything is going smoothly and we are hoping to close on Christmas Eve.

3. Marena came to visit and we had a blast! She came in for a weekend and we really enjoyed spending time together. On Saturday we went to my mom’s for her “tea party”. Thanks mom we had a great time. Then Saturday night all of the girls were good sports and went to Millennium Park to ice skate with me even though I am sure it wasn’t top on their list of things to do. We had fun. We finished off the night with Portillio’s and then back to my place to have some wine and gossip, always a good time. Thanks for making the trip Marena!

4. We went to Houston for Thanksgiving. I think I ate more while we were there than I have in a long time. We had a nice visit with the family, got to see the nieces and nephews and just relaxed. We went to the racetrack to watch the horses and after countless times of going to the track, I won my first bet, only $22 but still fun.

Okay now that you are all caught up and I hope I haven’t forgotten anything or anyone, we can go back to the everyday stuff.

Here are some pictures from the month.

Now that it's cold I put our flannel sheets on the bed, Morgan loves them, he likes to burrow under and get comfy hoping that no one will find him.

On Monday Becky, John, and I decided to carve pumpkins to get into the holiday spirit. We had a good time. I used to carve a pumpkin with the kids every year when I was teaching, of course it was always the typical triangle eyes etc. So this year I decided to go with something different.
Christy's pumpkin
John's pumpkin
Becky's pumpkin
Then of course we had to light them and admire our work. John's looked funny lit up, all you could see was the one eye and the mouth.

Last night John and I went to see the opening night of Phantom of the Opera. I love seeing plays, well good ones at least. I have seen quite a few of the major musicals and I was surprised that I had managed to miss Phantom prior to now. I have known the music since 6th grade and was pretty excited because I knew I would enjoy it.

I have to say I wasn't disappointed, it was great. The music was good, the singing was phenomenal! The special effects were pretty cool. **Spoiler alert!!*** Although I was disappointed that when the chandelier fell it didn't look more realistic, I guess that's hard to do with people underneath it in the way. Overall I was very pleased with the show and I highly recommend it to you. It ranks in my top 5 musicals of all time. Hmmm... there's an idea.

Top 5 musicals I have seen:

1. Les Miserables

2. Phantom of the Opera

3. Sunset Blvd.

4. Miss Saigon

5. **Tie:

BOO!

I know you are all dying to see our costumes from this weekend so here you go. We had a fun time at the party we went to.

That's me trying to look devilish, who am I kidding?
My favorite part of my costume were the red patent leather high heels that I had been needing an excuse to buy.

Food on my mind...

Just sitting here relaxing, drinking a cup of tea and looking out the window at this beautiful fall day. Not too much going on this week. I finally got all of the pieces for my Halloween costume. This year I am missing the annual Ziolo party-so sad! Sorry but I am working that weekend. However, John and I are going to another friends party the weekend before Halloween, so alas we did need costumes. I will post some pictures next week, and reveal what we are.
John and I had a great, relaxing weekend. I had been feeling quite sniffly and sneezy all week, so I thought taking it easy would be a good idea. On Friday we went to dinner at Grand Lux, one of my favorite restaurants in the city. It is owned by the same company that owns Cheesecake Factory, yummy! Then we went to see the new movie Gone Baby Gone directed by Ben Affleck, starring Casey Affleck. John wrote about the movie in his blog so I won't go into too much detail, but I will say that it is one of my favorite movies -very well done! Saturday we were lazy during the day and then at night went to The Fieldhouse to watch the Illini game, it was nice to see some friends we don't see often enough. Then Sunday was more laziness, I took a walk along North avenue and window shopped while enjoying the beautiful weather, and then came home and made beef stew.
I forgot to write about the Van Halen concert last week. Let me preface this review with some info. I like Van Halen, and the majority of the songs I like are from the Sammy Hagar era. Now I knew that the concert would be with David Lee Roth, but I thought, well...we'll see how I like it. Let's just say I have not been converted to a David Lee Roth fan. We'll work our way thru the instruments:
Vocals-bad, David came in late on the lyrics often, forgot the words often, and despite his poor performance still acted like an ego maniac often. Show some humility!
Guitar-Eddie did a very good job. John was able to notice some decline in skill from previous years, but I did not. He did pretty good for his age and looks pretty good doing it.
Bass-Eddie's 16 year old son Wolfgang made his debut this tour and he did a really good job. I can't believe he is only 16!
Drums-not much to say, Alex did a fine job.
So overall, I enjoyed the concert but would have like it much better if Sammy were there instead of David. Luckily John and I are going to see Sammy in about 2 weeks, looking forward to it.

Here is your weekly Top 10 )they are going to get a little random now)

My Top 10 favorite foods
Mac & Cheese
Cheese fries
Cheeseburgers
Turkey and cheese on a big roll with mayo of course
Grilled cheese
Blueberry pancakes
Mashed potatoes
Fillet Mignon
Peanut butter anything
Lasagna

What's your favorite?

Not too much going on here. John and I had a nice weekend, on Friday we had dinner with an old friend from high school, that John now works with, we had a good time. Then we went to the Shakespeare theatre at Navy Pier to see a play called Passion, it wasn't anything special, I would save your money. If you want details I'll be happy to fill you in. Saturday we just relaxed and then went to my mom and dads for dinner with some family friends and my brother and Stephanie. Of course the conversation always turns to politics, but this time it wasn't that bad. Maybe we were trying to be a little nicer for the sake of our friends visiting, yeah right! Anyway there was no screaming which is always a good thing. Then on Sunday my big excitement was cleaning out the big closet we have in the living room, it seemed that every time I opened the door random stuff would fly out at me as if trying to escape the cluttered mess. So I decided it was time to clean it out. It's such a gratifying feeling to finish a task like that. Lately I have been on a "give it to goodwill" kick, in the past 2 months we have filled about 8 garbage bags of stuff to get rid of. It feels good, when you have such a small apartment you really have to be that way. Sunday night we went to see the premier of the a movie at the Chicago International Film Festival, called Slipstream it was directed by and starred Anthony Hopkins, and he personally introduced the film, although didn't say anything spectacular. It was cool to see a real "red carpet" and the movie was pretty good too, even though it was one of those -I'm gonna confuse the heck out of you so bad that you don't even remember that you're at the movies-movie. Maybe John will elaborate on his blog, he likes to write about stuff like that. So overall a good weekend. This Tuesday we are going to see Van Halen with some friends, maybe I'll have something to report.

Okay Anonymous if you would have been patient you would have seen that I was just gearing up for the Top 10 things I love about fall:

Halloween
You can open all of the windows in the house
You can wear a thick sweater
No sweating!
Jeans
The smell of crisp air
The leaves changing colors
Carving pumpkins
Football
Apple crisp

Another summer has come and gone

Hello readers I have some sad news to report, today summer died. I know the calendar said summer was over a few weeks ago, but if you live in Chicago you know that summer usually extends into October. Today Fall finally arrived. To mourn the death of summer here's my top 10 for the week.

Top 10 things I’ll miss about Summer
Flip flops
Swimming
Ice cream
The farmer's market
Baseball games
Bar-B-Q’s
Weekends away
Fireworks
Beer gardens
Flowers

What will you miss about summer?

I've decided to add top 10 lists weekly to my blog, I have some ideas but if there is something you want to see let me know.

Wednesday, October 3, 2007

Well I have survived the last week, amazing I know! I have a random assortment of things to write about.

1. Today my parents have been married for 33 years. Amazing! Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad! I love you.

2. Reunion: Everything went well, it was nice to see a few old friends that I really hadn’t seen or heard anything about over the years. We had two separate events, one night in Glen Ellyn at a local bar, and one night downtown at a bar called Fizz. I enjoyed the night in Glen Ellyn a little more. The first ½ hour of each night was pretty awkward, but a beer can always help with that. By the time the middle of the second night rolled around I was worn out and tired of “schmoozing” and wanted to have a conversation with someone where I didn’t have to bring them up to date on my life. Overall, fun but it wore me out! Thankfully I wont have to go through it again for 10 more years!

3. Horticulture: I love the plumeria plant. I fell in love when we were in Hawaii on our honeymoon. It is the best smelling thing on Earth, no really! And it’s very pretty, and comes in a lot of colors. This past summer, in Kauai I bought a plumeria plant root and brought it home. Apparently Hawaii has no problem with you taking plants from the island as long as you pay up. I got home and planted it, and waited. I had done the same thing when we went to Hawaii for our honeymoon, but the plant did nothing! So frustrating. But this time little white flowers started popping out. It’s like a little piece of Hawaii right on my deck. I love it!
4. Marathon: A few weeks ago John spent a Sunday morning taking a run along the lakefront. I went with him and decided to take some pictures of the beautiful Lake Michigan beach at sunrise.

And their off! Good luck on Sunday John! You will do great! I am proud of you!

Coffee Talk

So yesterday I walked into Caribou Coffee in Glenview, I pretty much go to the same place everyday, it's tough having an addiction. They have been running a promotion on coffee all week, buy one pound and get a free drink. They haven't been selling much, so yesterday they took some drastic measures. Posted above the usual sale sign was a handwritten note, by the guy who works there (who incidentally reminds me of Reed??) the sign reads;

For every person who doesn't buy a pound of coffee, God kills a kitten. Buy some coffee, think about the kittens!

I found this sign to be hilarious! I mean laugh out loud funny. However the fine upstanding citizens of Glenview did not. A lady walked in behind me with a 3 yr old little girl, read the sign and said, "That's disgusting! Take that down, it's distasteful!" The Reed-esque worker promptly removed the sign.

That visual provided me with a little nugget of comedy all day.

Taking stock

Not too much going on lately in the Delaney household. The past few weekends have been quiet, which is unusual for us. This past weekend we relaxed most of the time and then on Sunday we went to an old friend from high school’s wedding. We all said how it felt like a little warm up for our ten-year reunion, which is next weekend. The wedding was very nice, it was held at the Arboretum in Lombard, which is a beautiful place for a wedding. It was great to see Tim again and to meet his new wife Karin. They sound like they really have a great relationship, and both John and I are happy for them. At the wedding there were a few classmates and it was fun to catch up and talk about the upcoming reunion.

Reunions are funny things because they bring up such a mixture of emotions. When I first heard about the reunion I was very excited to see friends and find out what everyone had been up to. Just to say hi, and maybe get in touch with some people that I had lost contact with. I had always thought that most people had matured since high school and so there would be no cliques and no cattiness, just everyone being friendly. I was excited and I really couldn’t understand why anyone else wouldn’t be. Some of my friends had expressed other emotions about going to the reunion, and I am now just beginning to understand that.

It was about 3 weeks ago that it finally hit me, just a general feeling of nervousness. I was worried about every detail of the reunion; from what to wear, to what if someone was mean to me, to what if I have nothing to talk about with someone??? My always active imagination went into overdrive and I became a little crazy. I started to take stock of my life, and wonder how would I answer the tough questions like, “what have you been up to????” It sounds ridiculous I know, but you start to doubt how wonderful your life is.

So I continued on with my nervous thoughts until yesterday when we went to Tim and Karin’s wedding, which was like the pre-game to the big game. Walking in I felt anxious, and decided a glass of wine might be a good idea. I really had nothing to worry about. Overall, the night was great, everyone talked and laughed and it went just fine. It was nice to see that other people didn’t seem as perfect as I built them up to be, they seemed normal just like me.

At home later that night I was getting ready for bed thinking about the day and I looked over at my wonderful husband watching the Bears game, and my kitties chasing each other around in the one bedroom apartment that we all squeeze into, and I realized how completely insane I had gone. My life is fabulous, I have everything I ever wished for and more. And obviously there’s room for improvement, how sad if there weren’t? Life is a work in progress. If someone asks me what have I been up to, I will have a lot to tell them.

I am really thankful that I had this eye opening experience a week before the reunion because I would hate to have wasted my time at the reunion being nervous instead of getting to know some old friends better.

Forcast for Saturday: Sunny and 77

I woke up Saturday to one of the most beautiful days that I have seen in Chicago, sunny about 77 degrees with a breeze-perfect!

I decided to take a walk through the neighborhood over to the farmer’s market. The farmer’s market is one of my favorite places to frequent in the city. I love looking at all the stands and it’s a great place to people watch.
After picking out some beautiful flowers, I continued on with my walk and did something else I love-shopping! I can’t think of a better way to spend the day. I did feel a twinge of guilt enjoying the day so much when I thought about John’s events for the day, running a grueling 18 miles. But hey, training for the marathon was his idea, not mine! By the way, I’m proud of you John for sticking with it, you are almost there-keep it up!

Saturday night John and I made the trek out to the ‘burbs for our friend Brooke’s birthday. They hosted a bar-b-que and then we continued on to a bar with a very large beer garden, it was an interesting place complete with a castle. We had a great night.

How many boys does it take to move a dog house? The boys help out Brooke by moving Zoey's dog house, definitely a funny sight!
Darcy and Eric
Happy Birthday Brooke!
A shout out to Balld, thanks for being one of the few to read my blog.
Darcy, the dark hair looks cute! That's a cool tuxedo t-shirt, you got yourself one hot man.

Life is good

Quite a few friends and family have been kind enough to remind me that I started a blog, it seems I have been so busy for the last month that I haven't written. How nice of them to refresh my memory..
Life has been good. I spent a weekend in Texas visiting John's family, I had a few days off of work which I spent shopping, John's cousins came to town to visit, I have been able to see my friends quite often, overall it has been a good summer. I just realized the other day that this weekend is Labor Day and that it is getting darker earlier and so soon summer will be gone. It's so sad, summer is my absolute favorite time of year. Especially in Chicago, there is so much to do, and so much fun to be had (and you can wear flip-flops!)
About 2 weeks ago John and I bit the bullet and bought a new car. We had been thinking about it for quite some time and were trying to decide what we wanted. Since I have always had a long commute, we were interested in something that could save us some gas money. We turned to the Prius, and did some research. After much consideration and a test drive we were in love, so we bought our first brand new car! I have to say that I truly love driving this car, but maybe that's because all I've ever driven was a beater ford escort and a 9 year old pontiac sunfire. The Prius has a lot of neat gadgets, my absolute favorite being the built in bluetooth conection that allows you to talk on the phone through your car stereo-really a great thing for someone who drives and talks on the phone as much as I do. So far I have been getting about 45 miles per gallon, which is great.

In other news I traveled to St. Louis this past weekend with Kate, Amanda, and Marena. Kate works for Omni hotel and was able to get us a discounted rate at the Omni in St. Louis, which was quite nice. Kate and I drove the Prius to give it a road trip, and Marena and Amanda flew in. We had such a good time. I was really surprised how quiet St.Louis was, there didn't seem to be a lot of people out. We likened it to the loop on a Sunday morning-no one is there. Everyone we came in contact with was wonderful and so nice and helpful. We were also surpried by how trendy St. Louis is. When you went to a bar for a drink everyone was dressed to the nines, no jeans and flip flops there. While we were there we went on the Anheuser Busch tour, Kate's uncle works for the company and was able to get us a VIP tour. Our tour guide Tiffany was great and she also made sure we had plenty to drink, I am certain she gave us more than she should have- it was great! The grounds were beautiful and we even got to see the clydesdale horses. Follwing the tour we went to the Oliver Studio Salon & Spa. Where we managed to spend a ridiculous amount of money for 4 hours. It was the most fun I have had in a long time. We had the spa area all to ourselves and had also gotten the wine and cheese package so we really relaxed. The people that worked there were the nicest girls I have ever met at a salon. We decided we are definately going back! The rest of the trip consisted of laughing and eating, what else do you need in life? I can't wait to take a trip with the girls again. Here are some pictures from our fabulous weekend.

Marena, I loved seeing you! I can't wait to visit again soon.

Jimmy Buffett 7.28.2007

This past weekend we went to Wisconsin with some friends to camp and see Jimmy Buffett in concert at Alpine Valley. We had a great time! Friday everyone made it to the campsite, we stayed at Kettle Morraine State Park, it was a beautiful park. The people were friendly and the campsites were large and somewhat secluded. John and I arrived earlier than everyone else and had some time to set up our tent (in the rain of course!) and then get some ice and firewood. By the time everyone else arrived the rain had stopped and we had a nice night sitting around the campfire.
The next morning we had a very nice breakfast of eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast, and coffee- all cooked on our campfire! The weather was great Saturday and we had a good time getting ready for the concert.
In the early evening we drove to Alpine Valley ready for some tailgating. We had decided to do it in style much like a lot of other Buffett fans. We had a baby pool to sit around and put our feet in, complete with palm tree and umbrella's in drinks.
Now once we got everything set up in was great, but getting about 30 gallons of water to the concert for the pool was a feat in itself. Everyone was a great sport about making my ideal tailgating scenario come true. We really had a good time. Walking into the venue we got a great view of all the crazy things that other Buffett fans do for tailgating. I really think that going to a Jimmy Buffett concert is like nothing else in the world. There were slip-n-slides, pools, sand, big floats, sharks, bars set up, people dressed up in anything and everything-it was great! I think I enjoyed the tailgating just as much as the concert. I'm already thinking of what I want to do next year!
Jimmy was great, he played some things we hadn't heard yet, some covers (a great Springsteen Glory Days) and of course the classics. It wasn't the best show I'd seen him do but it was close. I also like the venue, it was the first time I'd been to Alpine Valley and I like it better than Tinley. My only complaint for the whole weekend was that the line to get a drink and the people working at Alpine were terrible. It just took way to long and the vendors were confused.
Overall I had a blast this weekend and I can't wait to see Jimmy Buffett again, if you haven't seenn him yet-you should go.

Out of Town

We are getting ready for a weekend away to Wisconsin for some time spent relaxing with friends. We are going to camp for the weekend at Kettle Morraine State Park and then on Saturday we are going to Alpine Valley to see Jimmy Buffett in concert. I am very excited for the concert. If you have never seen Jimmy in concert you need to, his shows are unlike any concert you have ever been to, it is such a fun and lively atmosphere with people of all ages. I am sure on Sunday I will have some great pictures and stories to post about the weekend. While I am away I hope you all enjoy your weekend, and do something fun too!

Home Sweet Home

Well here we are back home, and trying to get back on schedule. We have been home for a week now and we are still trying to get caught up on life and sleep. We had such a fantastic time on our trip to Hawaii, and really can't wait to go back again. We have decided that Kauai is the most beautiful of the Hawaiian islands, and that when we go back we'll go there. Out of all the islands this is the one that I would love to live on. Right now I'm thinking that this won't happen anytime soon, maybe when we retire someday. Anyway for now it's back to reality.
The new job is going well, for those of you who don't know I recently quit teaching and took a job as a nanny for a family in Glenview. I just needed a break from teaching, and since John hasn't earned his first million yet I still need to work. The family is really nice and so far I am enjoying it. It is definately a change of pace from teaching, which I needed. This is the first summer that I have worked in 3 years and that part isn't fun, but it's not like it's a hard job, and I'm outside playing all day. I can't complain.
This weekend John and I went to the Cubs game, unfortunately they lost. It was still a great day to watch a ball game. Each year we try to get bleacher seats to at least one game, it's a nice change from the upper decks that we sit in all the time. The weather was perfect although a little warm in the direct sun for so long, but overall a good day.
Hope everyone else has a great weekend! It's good to be home.

The Big Island: Day 6 & 7

On Thursday we left Kauai and flew to the Big Island of Hawaii. John had been interested in seeing Volcanoes National Park, and I fearfully went along. John had been checking frequently and up until mid-June Kilauea had been erupting, unfortunately then it stopped. We weren’t going to see any lava flowing, secretly I felt a little relieved. Thursday was a whirlwind; we woke up, flew to Hilo, and checked into our bed and breakfast. Here is our room, we had a lovely view from our private lanai (balcony).
We then rushed out to the park to look around. Now while I do think that volcanoes are neat, I don’t share quite the enthusiasm for them that John does. The whole time he is saying, “Isn’t this cool, we’re walking on lava!” Meanwhile I am thinking …Um, well it looks like a lotta black rocks. We decided to do a short 4 mile hike (uh oh I’m starting to refer to 4 miles as short) through the center of an old volcanic crater. By now I was kinda sick of hiking, however it ended up being more interesting than I anticipated. The crater looks very smooth from up high, but when you are walking on it, it is very bumpy and uneven. That faint white line through the crater is actually the trail we walked on.
There were spots where steam was coming out of the ground, neat to see! Overall a good, but tiring, hike.

The next day was our last day in Hawaii, and so we thought we’d cram as much into it as possible. We woke up to a lovely breakfast on our lanai, and then set out for the day. We were not going to be able to see everything so we narrowed it down to a few favorites. We started by going to a beautiful botanical garden that had a lot of unique tropical flowers, birds, etc.

A large tiki named "Ku" carved from a single monkey pod tree.

A pineapple bush.
We then we drove to 2 pretty falls in the area. This one was the largest drop we had ever seen, 420 feet from top to bottom! This was a different one that we were able to stick our feet into, however had to be careful b/c the current was so strong.
After those stops we headed back over to Volcanoes National Park to see some things we hadn’t seen the day before. There is a road that you can drive on to see all of the most current lava that has erupted, so we thought we’d check it out. I have to say that this was much more interesting to me, and seeing where new land was being formed when the lava flows into the ocean was pretty cool.
Here is a geological phenomenon, a sea arch formed by the ocean hitting the lava rock.

Even though I was initially not too crazy about being near lava when it was erupting, I do think that it would have been a neat thing to see, and maybe sometime we’ll be able to go back and visit when it is erupting.

Kauai Day 4: Tuesday
We woke up exhausted from the previous days hike, we had used muscles we weren’t used to using. We slept late and had a leisurely morning. Today we needed to check out of our first hotel, the Aloha Beach Resort, and move over to our next hotel, the Hilton on Kauai. That's John with our jeep for the week, a really fun ride!

In the time in between we decided to check out some falls that were right down the road, Wailua Falls. When you drive to the overlook this is what you see, pretty but we like to get closer. Our guidebook told us that there was a trail down to the bottom, so of course we had to check it out.
The trail was steep but thankfully people had put in some ropes to help you. When we go to the falls we were glad we had made the trip. This was easily one of the best falls we had been in. Unfortunately we hadn’t worn our suits so we just waded in, but it was still great.

Kauai Day 5: Wednesday
Today was our day to relax, we spent the day doing some shopping on the island, eating, swimming, and relaxing by the pool. To end our day we got a massage, we sure needed it after all of the hiking we had been doing. Weir does this sound more like a vacation to you?

The Hilton

Of course we had to try out the waterslide!
