BOO!

I know you are all dying to see our costumes from this weekend so here you go. We had a fun time at the party we went to.

Food on my mind...

Just sitting here relaxing, drinking a cup of tea and looking out the window at this beautiful fall day. Not too much going on this week. I finally got all of the pieces for my Halloween costume. This year I am missing the annual Ziolo party-so sad! Sorry but I am working that weekend. However, John and I are going to another friends party the weekend before Halloween, so alas we did need costumes. I will post some pictures next week, and reveal what we are.
John and I had a great, relaxing weekend. I had been feeling quite sniffly and sneezy all week, so I thought taking it easy would be a good idea. On Friday we went to dinner at Grand Lux, one of my favorite restaurants in the city. It is owned by the same company that owns Cheesecake Factory, yummy! Then we went to see the new movie Gone Baby Gone directed by Ben Affleck, starring Casey Affleck. John wrote about the movie in his blog so I won't go into too much detail, but I will say that it is one of my favorite movies -very well done! Saturday we were lazy during the day and then at night went to The Fieldhouse to watch the Illini game, it was nice to see some friends we don't see often enough. Then Sunday was more laziness, I took a walk along North avenue and window shopped while enjoying the beautiful weather, and then came home and made beef stew.
I forgot to write about the Van Halen concert last week. Let me preface this review with some info. I like Van Halen, and the majority of the songs I like are from the Sammy Hagar era. Now I knew that the concert would be with David Lee Roth, but I thought, well...we'll see how I like it. Let's just say I have not been converted to a David Lee Roth fan. We'll work our way thru the instruments:
Vocals-bad, David came in late on the lyrics often, forgot the words often, and despite his poor performance still acted like an ego maniac often. Show some humility!
Guitar-Eddie did a very good job. John was able to notice some decline in skill from previous years, but I did not. He did pretty good for his age and looks pretty good doing it.
Bass-Eddie's 16 year old son Wolfgang made his debut this tour and he did a really good job. I can't believe he is only 16!
Drums-not much to say, Alex did a fine job.
So overall, I enjoyed the concert but would have like it much better if Sammy were there instead of David. Luckily John and I are going to see Sammy in about 2 weeks, looking forward to it.

Not too much going on here. John and I had a nice weekend, on Friday we had dinner with an old friend from high school, that John now works with, we had a good time. Then we went to the Shakespeare theatre at Navy Pier to see a play called Passion, it wasn't anything special, I would save your money. If you want details I'll be happy to fill you in. Saturday we just relaxed and then went to my mom and dads for dinner with some family friends and my brother and Stephanie. Of course the conversation always turns to politics, but this time it wasn't that bad. Maybe we were trying to be a little nicer for the sake of our friends visiting, yeah right! Anyway there was no screaming which is always a good thing. Then on Sunday my big excitement was cleaning out the big closet we have in the living room, it seemed that every time I opened the door random stuff would fly out at me as if trying to escape the cluttered mess. So I decided it was time to clean it out. It's such a gratifying feeling to finish a task like that. Lately I have been on a "give it to goodwill" kick, in the past 2 months we have filled about 8 garbage bags of stuff to get rid of. It feels good, when you have such a small apartment you really have to be that way. Sunday night we went to see the premier of the a movie at the Chicago International Film Festival, called Slipstream it was directed by and starred Anthony Hopkins, and he personally introduced the film, although didn't say anything spectacular. It was cool to see a real "red carpet" and the movie was pretty good too, even though it was one of those -I'm gonna confuse the heck out of you so bad that you don't even remember that you're at the movies-movie. Maybe John will elaborate on his blog, he likes to write about stuff like that. So overall a good weekend. This Tuesday we are going to see Van Halen with some friends, maybe I'll have something to report.

Another summer has come and gone

Hello readers I have some sad news to report, today summer died. I know the calendar said summer was over a few weeks ago, but if you live in Chicago you know that summer usually extends into October. Today Fall finally arrived. To mourn the death of summer here's my top 10 for the week.

I've decided to add top 10 lists weekly to my blog, I have some ideas but if there is something you want to see let me know.

Well I have survived the last week, amazing I know! I have a random assortment of things to write about.

1. Today my parents have been married for 33 years. Amazing! Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad! I love you.

2. Reunion: Everything went well, it was nice to see a few old friends that I really hadn’t seen or heard anything about over the years. We had two separate events, one night in Glen Ellyn at a local bar, and one night downtown at a bar called Fizz. I enjoyed the night in Glen Ellyn a little more. The first ½ hour of each night was pretty awkward, but a beer can always help with that. By the time the middle of the second night rolled around I was worn out and tired of “schmoozing” and wanted to have a conversation with someone where I didn’t have to bring them up to date on my life. Overall, fun but it wore me out! Thankfully I wont have to go through it again for 10 more years!

3. Horticulture: I love the plumeria plant. I fell in love when we were in Hawaii on our honeymoon. It is the best smelling thing on Earth, no really! And it’s very pretty, and comes in a lot of colors. This past summer, in Kauai I bought a plumeria plant root and brought it home. Apparently Hawaii has no problem with you taking plants from the island as long as you pay up. I got home and planted it, and waited. I had done the same thing when we went to Hawaii for our honeymoon, but the plant did nothing! So frustrating. But this time little white flowers started popping out. It’s like a little piece of Hawaii right on my deck. I love it!
4. Marathon: A few weeks ago John spent a Sunday morning taking a run along the lakefront. I went with him and decided to take some pictures of the beautiful Lake Michigan beach at sunrise.
